Coming up with a “Top 7” best luxury watches list is never an easy task. This is a selection of men’s watches introduced at the annual Baselworld show last spring, the industry’s premiere event, held in Switzerland.

It’s truly a “best of the best” exercise. Speaking with all the major players/brands there, we got a sense of what would resonate with aficionados, and finalized this list of must-haves:

PatekPhilippe

PATEK PHILIPPE – 5172G

Patek Philippe was the story of Baselworld, with several new releases, and the beautiful blue 5172G is our favourite. The re-designed chronograph case measures 41 mm in white gold with an immaculate finished manual wind movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. PRICE: $73,712 USD

D. CANDAUX – DC-6 HALF HUNTER SOLSTICE

The independent watch brand D. Candaux revealed their DC-6 Half Hunter Solstice Collection (three versions – organs, blue and red) that we can sum up in one word – masterpiece. These titanium case watches can only truly be appreciated in person – the Magic Crown and incline manual wind tourbillon are awe-inspiring. PRICE: $273,000 USD

GRAND SEIKO – ELEGANCE COLLECTION – SBY002

The Grand Seiko Elegance Collection’s new Spring Drive thin dress watch is a beauty to behold. The “Snowflake” pattern dial is inspired by the beauty of the snow in the Shinshu region where the Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches are made. This dress watch is powered by a manual wind movement that is viewable through the case back and sits comfortably on the wrist at 38.5 mm in 18k yellow gold. PRICE: $25,000 USD
