FOPE has earned its world-class status and reputation for good reason. Not only are their gold chains and bracelets gorgeous to wear, they are a feat of engineering.
“FOPE (pronounced “FO-PAY”) is a design that is very classic,” says Jeff Buzbuzian, owner of Knar Jewellery, with a location at the corner of Avenue Rd. and Prince Arthur Ave., one block north of Bloor St., in Toronto. “It’s fashionable, casual. It looks good with everything, and it’s easy to wear.”
Iconic, everyday luxury, is what Jeff calls it. FOPE features the patented Flex’it design, allowing for the 18k gold bracelet to stretch open, so the wearer can roll the bracelet on and off without the use of a clasp. Wearers know they aren’t going to break and get lost because the clasp has failed.
Knar Jewellery has a full collection of FOPE jewellery in all three of their stores (they have locations in Oakville and Guelph as well) – varying weights of mesh chain and colours of gold allow for easy mixing and matching, while earrings, rings, and necklaces complement their signature bracelets.
“It is really all about the wearability of it,” he says, “and the flexibility of the actual design itself. Some bracelets are kind of rigid. They bang around and clunk. A lot of them shows signs of scratching because of their design, plain flat surfaces. When jewellery gets scratched and worn it doesn’t look special. People know with FOPE, when they put it on, they can leave it on, and it’s comfortable. The bracelets sit nicely on the wrist, and women can stack up other jewellery items against it. That’s a big fashion look now. They love that aspect of it.”
Women can take three bracelets on vacation, for example, and wear one by the pool, one at dinner, one on the same wrist as a watch, or all at the same time, for a boho chic look.
Jeff remembers visiting the FOPE production facilities in Vicenza, Italy, and being struck by the top-secret processes and machinery that was protected – observing true craftsmen prepare, polish and assemble every link of a bracelet by hand.

“It’s legendary in every way,” he says. “It’s one of the world’s most recognized bracelets according to jewellery aficionados.”
In the end, people are happier to invest in pieces that are highly engineered for durability, wearability and style, that can stand the test of time and are always in style, as opposed to just going after something that is just about style.
“Some designs date themselves,” he says. “Lots of people invest lots of money in those pieces. There is something wonderful in having an original. That can’t be replaced.”
Originality, innovation, enduring beauty, durability – true luxury like FOPE never fades. Celebrating 90 years as jewellery pioneers, FOPE creations are renowned worldwide for finely crafted elegance.
